How Dog Treats Can Help Keep Your Dog’s Teeth Healthy

A healthy dog is a happy dog. One aspect of a dog’s health that is often overlooked is their dental hygiene. There are a number of ways owners can help improve their dog’s health. One of them is by giving them natural dog treats.

What Dental Hygiene Problems Can Afflict Dogs?

Like humans, dogs can suffer from a wide number of dental hygiene issues including:

·         Halitosis
·         Plaque and tartar build up
·         Tooth ache
·         Periodontal gum disease such as bleeding or gum irritation.
·         Build up of saliva or bacteria in the mouth

Dental problems in dogs can lead to other problems such as loss of teeth, a diminished appetite, depression and even damage to other organs if the bacterium spreads. Keeping a dog’s teeth healthy will be of huge benefit to keep them fit and happy. Owners can do this by getting them used to teeth brushing as a puppy, or by taking them a professional groomer. However, one easy way to keep a dog’s teeth in top condition is by giving them chewy natural dog treats.

How Can Dog Treats Help Keep A Dog’s Teeth And Gums Healthy?

If there’s one thing dogs love, it’s chewing. Chewing regularly is the main way dogs keep their teeth and gums healthy and disease free. Dogs that chew regularly have less plaque build up, which in turn leads to a reduced risk of gum diseases, bad breath and so on.

Dry dog food and natural dog treats that are larger in size can see up 70% less plaque being built up on their teeth when introduced to a dog’s diet. Dry dog food is preferable to wet food as there is less chance of it getting stuck in the dog’s teeth and beginning to decay.

Some of the most common natural dog treat types that are good for dental hygiene are:

·         Hide Dog Treats and Chews – These are typically made from the hide of cows or horses. They come in different shapes and sizes including bone shapes, dental chips and even ring doughnut shapes.
·         Cereal Based Treats and Chews – These are made from healthy vegetables and cereal crops. They come in a range of flavours and are perfect for a variety of breeds.
·         Bones, Ears and Trotters – Amongst the range of natural dog treats that More For Pets Ltd sell are pig’s ears and trotters, stuffed cow hooves and more. These are free from additives and are 100% natural!

Combining these with chewable dog toys can help keep dogs healthy and happy for longer.

There are a few points to consider dog owners should consider when giving dogs treats.

·         Make the right match of treat for the right size and breed of dog.
·         Limit treats as they can contain a lot of calories. The rule of thumb is the smaller the dog, the fewer the treats.
·         If a dog already has weak or damaged teeth, avoid bones and ears as this may cause extra damage and discomfort.
·         If a dog is a particularly aggressive chewer, it may tear off large pieces of hide or the treat and be at risk of choking. Owners should be vigilant when checking for choking and gastric or intestinal problems while their dog chews one of these treats.

Stop Your Dog From Chewing with Natural Dog Treats From More For Pets

We all love our pups, but excessive chewing and biting can become a problem. Puppies and young dogs love to play and we want to entertain them as much as we can. However, we do not always have the time and sometimes we need our dog to sit quietly for a few moments. These moments are often when our slippers, shoes and other possessions get chewed up!

How Can You Stop Your Dog From Chewing?

Chewing is often a result of too much energy combined with boredom. There are effective measures you can put in place now that will help cut pesky chewing, including:

·         Bonding Time – give your pup plenty of time to play and exercise. A tired dog will be less likely to get restless and start causing mischief! Play is essential to your dog’s growth and development as well as a wonderful chance for you to bond and build a strong relationship.

·         Puppy Proof – Puppies are not great at resisting temptation, so take an ‘out of sight out of mind’ approach. Keep you pups curiosity at bay by keeping chewy objects like shoes, remotes controls etc out of sight or at higher levels.

·         Distraction – If you catch your pup chewing on something it shouldn’t be, distract him or her with another toy or by calling them over, then give lots of praise and love when they come to you.

·         Alternative chews – Chewing is actually vital for your pups dental hygiene and brain development so providing natural chewy treats for them will not only occupy them but provide many health benefits too.

The Benefits Of Dog Toys

Much like humans, our canine friends love a good play. To keep your pooch happy, it is important to provide them with dog toys that are beneficial to their mental and physical health. Offering them a chance to play, the right toys will keep your dog happy and healthy.

What Are The Benefits of Dog Toys?

As well as being excellent playthings and boredom breakers for dogs, dog toys posses a number of added benefits that make them an essential for your pampered pooch.

1.    Anxiety and Emotional Health – A playful dog is a happy dog. Keeping a dog emotionally satisfied is very important for its general wellbeing and, dog toys are an excellent way of keeping your pooch happy. Puppies, for example, can often feel nervous, especially in a new home or environment. A soft, cuddly dog toy can alleviate this whilst also providing something soft to chew one.

2.    Dental Hygiene – Keeping a dog’s teeth clean and healthy doesn’t always mean brushing them. A lot of toys are designed to keep your dog’s teeth in top condition. Chew toys, including chewable bones, rope toys and other some textured rubber balls, promote natural chewing helping to keep your dog’s teeth and gums healthy. For puppies, there are toys specifically designed to ease the pain of teething. Make sure to regular check chew toys for signs of wear and discard if parts begin to break off.

3.    Boredom and Loneliness – Dogs hate being bored. Squeaky toys are an excellent way to keep your dog stimulated whilst you are out. The squeak makes the dog feel as if the toy is interacting with them, helping to illuminate loneliness and keep them from getting bored.

4.    Physical Health – When used in conjunction with walks, trips to the park and other fun playtime activities, dog toys can help keep a dog physically healthy. Playing fetch with dog balls satisfy a dog’s need to run and chase, whilst keeping them happy and healthy.

5.    Increase Intelligence – Dog toys can also help increase a dog’s intelligence. Dogs are smarter than many people think, with studies suggesting that a dog’s intelligence is comparable to that of a two and a half year old child. Puzzle dog toys satisfy your pooch’s natural curiosity whilst rewarding them with a tasty treat.

A Favourite Fish For Many The Easy To Care For But Spectacular Betta.

The Betta or Siamese Fighting fish as it was once more popularly known has been a staple of community aquariums for many, many years a position that they are not always that comfortable in.

Betta Splendens are naturally from Thailand (formerly Siam) and Malaysia from slower moving warmer bodies of water. They are members of the Gourami family and still have the labyrinth organ associated with this group of fish, this organ allows the fish to breath atmospheric air from the water surface.

The Betta has been and still is very misconceived with many people thinking that they will thrive on neglect due to the ability to breath air and the fact they can be found in standing water, or that they can be kept in the hustle and bustle of a busy community aquarium.

The highly developed Betta deserves so much more and now people are beginning to appreciate these gorgeous fish in their own right. many forms are now bred and trade in including: Veil Tail, Comb Tail, Crown tail, Half Moon, Rose Tail, Feather Tail, Delta Tail, Double Tail, Elephant Ear and many more!!! All of this in a Kaleidoscope of terrific metallic colours.

Given their own space in a warm, gently filtered tank with clear yet subdued lighting these fish will amaze you with their confidence and character! No longer hidden at the back of your community with tired tattered fins these beautiful fish will soon become pets in their own right living for three to four years or more!

Zoo Med have brought out a whole range of Betta Accessories to help maintain your fish in peak condition. Check out the new section of the More For Pets site specifically dedicated to the Betta!! Here you can purchase all of your Betta accessories at cheap prices, everything from specialised pellets foods and automatic feeders, tank decorations and floating hide logs, to heaters and digital thermometers.
